Course Description:
The Weather and Environmental Science Officer Course provides training for Air Force officers, AFSC 15W1, in the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the duties of a Weather Officer. The course focuses on Air Force/Joint weather doctrine and military applications of meteorology. The scope of training includes Air Force Weather (AFW) concepts of operations, AFW organizational structures, AFW roles and responsibilities, the characterization and exploitation of weather information, weather impacts on weapon systems, surface weather observations, meteorological satellite (METSAT) interpretation, weather radar theory and lab, encoding/decoding of meteorological reports, operation of tactical and fixed base meteorological equipment, space weather, forecasting processes and methods, numerical weather prediction (NWP) models, and weather operations lab.
