Course Description:
This course provides initial training for personnel in the Radar, Airfield and Weather Systems (RAWS/1C833) career field. This course includes basic electronics training along with meteorological, navigation, radar, and air traffic control communication systems. Major emphasis is placed on the use of test equipment and technical manuals, performing preventative maintenance routines, system alignments, and hands-on/theoretical troubleshooting of RAWS systems. Job oriented safety is stressed throughout the course. This course includes apprentice level knowledge required for maintenance and repair of the instrument landing system (ILS), tactical air navigation set (TACAN), automatic meteorology station (AMS), digital analog legal recording system (DALR), enhanced terminal voice switch (ETVS) and very high frequency (VHF)/ultra high frequency (UHF) transmitters, receivers and transceivers. Training also covers apprentice level radar fundementals and the knowledge required for maintenance and repair of fixed of air traffic control radar systems using the DASR and STARS radar systems as training vehicles along with associated system equipment and associated test equipment. Also included is apprentice level knowledge required for maintenance and repair of deployable air traffic control radar systems, the AN/TPN-19 and air control radar AN/TPS-75 system. Students also receive training in the use of test equipment to include oscilloscopes, frequency counters, signal generators, digital multimeters, voltmeters, wattmeters, spectrum analyzers, distortion analyzers, power meters, audio oscillators and telephone test sets.
